Bringing it in today to fix some PPF on my bumper. Wondering what I can do to the front piece to look OEM? Should I do a matte black wrap and do a XPEL stealth over it to bring back that slight sheen ? Or should I do satin black wrap and call it a day..
it seems like the stock piece isn’t totally black, and isn’t completely matte either. Hmm

So what did you end up doing? I’m in need of a fix as well and was leaning toward plastidipping mine but the person that suggested the wrap got me thinking about going that route.

My issue with either wrapping or dipping is that the rock chips will not magically disappear. Yes they won’t be white chips anymore, but the wrap won’t fill in the holes. Now this will have to depend on how high your expectations are, and what looks “good” to you. My wrap shop would rather not wrap the piece, then offer to do it and then have people ask me who did this crappy job.
So what we did was, we tested a panel to see if the wrap would sink in the chips and still show the defects, or if it would mask it.
The results were that, yes indeed it still showed the chips. So I just left the panel as is, and down the road, I’ll just buy myself a new piece, or paint it a similar colour. I also wanted to know if PPF on top of the wrap would help it, but no, it would also show the defects.
Here’s a pic of the tow hook we used as a sample patch.

I was thinking of practicing on the tow hook as well. Yeah it sure does show. I wonder if maybe using some kind of filler before plastidipping or wrapping would work.
