    Smell of oil out exhaust

Hi all. New here to this forum and the RS but not new to cars and modding. I did a quick look here and have also done a quick search on Google with not much luck. I have a 2016 focus RS. It has 54k on it and this is a list of my mods. Catless down pipe. EtS intercooler radium duel catch cans as well as radium baffle. Injen intake and coils and 2 step colder plugs. Cobb AP and Cpe charge pipe with the tail BOV. My issue is and has been before I modded the car about a month ago is on idle after car is warm or after a 20 to 30 min Drive then idle at lights I can start to smell an oil smell out the exhaust as well as in the cabin. It is not a gas smell for sure. I also noticed from a first gear slow pull away there is smoke coming out the exhaust. The recall was done on the head gasket. I just took the car to Ford for this issue and they say they cant find anything. Does anyone have this issue or know what a fix is for it. Or is this normal because I know there is talk on this subject a bit with the eco mustang's. I just want to be sure I'm not missing something. Coolant levels stay the same and I do lose a bit of oil but I have also been told that is common with the RS. The car pulls hard on the dyno giving me 330 at the wheels with the can'd Cobb tune also if I drive it hard the smell goes away. I have been told that the pcv can be a bit faulty and drip some oil back. But when I call Ford to ask if there was a recall on the PCV they said no. Any insight into this or link me to an already discussed topic would be a huge help

You can stop right at catless downpipe. I had a catless Ď14 ST and my Ď17 RS as well. Itís just the smell of being catless. It can be annoying but I assure you youíre not burning oil. Both my cars never burned a drop.

Edit: just to clarify, the smell Iíve always got from my downpipes is extremely oil burning like. Does not smell like itís rich or wtv. But thatís just my experience. People think i burn oil, but nope not a drop Į\_(ツ)_/Į

Hi 320icar. Yes I know what you mean about catless I had a monster 426 with a whipple that ran catless. It never smoked and was more of a unburnt fuel smell that would also burn your eyes and nostrils a bit. This is differant its oil smell. Again a 426 hemi catless may be a differant smell. I just want to be sure because to me is seems like there is oil dripping into the exhaust. Wasnt sure if maybe a leak in turbo

Lol I just replied but it didnt go through. Maybe cause you changed it as I was typing. Thanks for the response. I had a heavily modded Chrysler 300 srt with a 426 and whipple that was pushing 815+ at the wheels with a race pump that was a daily. It used to smell as well because I was catless. It was more of a fuel smell and would burn your eyes and nostril hairs lol. But this is not the same smell. It seems to me there is possibly oil dripping into the hot exhaust so was concerned that maybe the PCV or even the turbo was dripping oil. But again if this is something that lots of RS guys experience and it's a none issue then I'm ok with that. I just want to be certain as the car runs out of warranty in 6K

    I see all 3 responses.

Does it only smoke on start up? Or at any point. People have had issues with the oil feed line to the turbo after the head gasket recall. Might be worth getting a flashlight left time it’s lifted up

No doesnt smoke on start up. But smokes if I am idling in traffic once I put in 1st gear and ease up. Then stops. It's more like a cloud then gone. And what did you mean by the last sentence "flashlight left time its" the reason I thought the pcv is maybe under no load a bit drips into the exhaust then burns off right away causing the quick bit of smoke. And would also explain why I dont get on start up as if it dripped down at end of day when I restart back up the next day the manifold is cold and it wouldnt burn off right away. It's really puzzling to me

Only 330 whp on a catless setup? I reccomend, along with alot of other users on this forum to upgrade to a dedicated tune, not the stock cons ones, so stratified, or mountune are really good choices especially with a catless down pipe. I make 421whp with catless down pipe, borla exhaust, mountune 93octane tune, 28psi of boost, and 7000k rev limit. The stock valvetrain will hit the pistons at about 8,250rpm.
Secondly, the whole burning oil smell is the smell of burning fuel and raw un-burnable fuel, the best way to put it is not all the fuel is burnt coming out of the engine, some of it even burns going down the pipe.

Google search ECOBOOST UPR PCV, Gutted PCV and you'll find the agreed upon culprit and solution in many Mustang threads.
