    Best of all, Mercedes reckons that the M139's power delivery is comparable to that of a naturally aspirated engine. (Sounds like no lag?)

    So how exactly have they done it? For starters the unit has been rotated by 180-degrees, allowing the turbocharger and exhaust manifold to be positioned at the rear, with the intake at the front. This not only makes for the flattest possible profile, benefitting aero, but crucially accommodates improved air ducting "with shorter distances and fewer diversions". A new twin-scroll turbocharger contains roller bearings for the first time, minimising mechanical friction, and also benefits from a divided turbine housing and exhaust manifold, allowing the exhaust flow to be fed to the turbine separately and preventing the individual cylinders from negatively influencing each other.

    I highly doubt that. I had a V60 Polestar w/ the twincharged engine, and there is no way this mercedes engine is torque-filling down low as good as that engine could with the supercharger for the low RPM's. At the end of the day, a street tuned LS3 still has a better powerband, and doesn't have to be boosted to 40 PSI to do it. The only reason these euro manufacturers are using these low displacement engines is because in the euro market all the road taxes are based off of displacement. So a LS3 may do a better job for these types of power levels, but ultimately if you tax solely off of displacement and not actual efficiency you end up with this situation where you need to have a heavily boosted smaller displacement engine.

    Most EU countries base their taxes on CO2 emissions. Even before that most were based on power of the engine, not displacement. Diesel engines were more popular because of the tax treatment of the diesel fuel and because a lower powered diesel engine usually has higher torque compared to a similar gasoline engine.
