Great to hear you're taking your RS out where it was meant to be - the track. If the track really gets wet, the key thing I learned is basically avoid the "race-line" as that is were all the tire rubber residue is from the 10 million other cars that have taken that turn before you. That rubber residue gets incredibly slick and has the exact opposite effect from when it's dry out - so avoid it altogether, move off the "race-line" and use the more virgin tarmac that doesn't have the rubber residue - you will find all the grip you need there. Good Luck and have fun! Post the video!

Yeah, it was a High Performance Driving Event (not a real race) so there were 3 designated passing zones in the straights only; so even though Lawrence is a Pro-Driver, out of respect for the event and the more novice drivers, he waited till the next official passing zone to overtake the Miata. But, you're right, on these really fast tracks like Road America, Miatas can really hold things up for lots of drivers.

Weren't you the one who replaced with a WRX? If so, I can tell you from personal experience, the FA DIT version, once modded, is no joke. I just drove one with j pipe, intake, exhaust, aftermarket TMIC, sitting on Ohlins, and that mf'er was the deal. I prefer 3 diffs as I owned a STI, but I have to admit the current WRX with some money in it, well I don't think you'd miss that RS as much.

Don't worry, scrote. There are plenty of 'tards out there living really kick-ass lives. My first wife was 'tarded. She's a pilot now.

Yes, that was me, but my wife and I are expecting our first in january, and so Ive been given the "no mod" ultimatum for the time being. Also bought an extended warranty for it (lets be honest...we know subarus reputation) which would be moot if I modded it right now :-/ stuck in the land of the slow for now.

That is exactly spot on from every instructor I have ever driven, or ridden with about the Rain Line.

125 on the front straight in the rain is pretty damned good.

I've never had my RS at RA, but I had my Focus ST at RA and I was only hitting about 120-130 on the front straight.

Though that's a far cry from the absolutely insane speeds one of the instructors C6 Z06's was hitting. He was regularly clocking 165mph on the straights in a 99% stock C6Z. He was of course equipped with pads and fluid as his only mods. Probably the best driver I've ever sat in a car with. It was extreme fun being a passenger in his car.

Shame. It doesn’t need much for mods. J pipe, tmic, tune it.

But a child, different story man. I never wanted them (had to raise myself since a very early age) but know damn well once you have one, your life is second to that child. The WRX is a great car man even stock man. A lot of car for not a lot of money. Kid will bring you more joy than any car ever will. And Subaru makes the safest cars on the road (chassis). Best of luck.

Well yesterday was wet as billed. First session I let the instructor start out, and then I took over. Interestingly he didn’t seem to believe in wet grip being better off line. Makes sense to me tho... Here’s video of him passing a Vette:

After the session in our debrief meeting everybody’s phones buzzed for a flash flood warning. It continued to pour on and off for hours.

The instructor later came to me and said “My car is very similar to yours, but yours has much better grip!” I asked him what he drove and he said a Sentra SE-R. I said well, I have street tires, but the AWD helps too. He said “woah you have AWD?” Apparently he though I had an ST...

In the second session I almost hit a bird:

By the third session things were starting to dry out, but I still had an advantage over the RWD cars and matched pace with an M3 for a few laps.

In the last session the track was almost dry and I had to give the same M3 a point by because he was quicker.
