Auto stop On/Off almost causes collision multiple times

How many have you have had the stupid auto engine stop almost cause you to have a traffic collision?

It's now happened to me about 5 times.
Normally it's part of my start up sequence of starting the car, seatbelt on, auto stop OFF.
But sometimes I forget and God damn it I've pulled up to red lights or stop signs and go to move off the line and BAM! ENGINE shuts down, go to restart the motor but pressing the ignition button turns the car off and now I've gotta release the clutch, re turn on the car, press the clutch and hit the ignition button..God damn it this feature needs to be off automatically and not On. I literally stopped in the middle of an intersection because the car sputtered and stalled due to that stupid feature...Sorry rant over, but how many times has this happened to anyone?

Damn that sucks. I've only had the car for 2 days and so far I am indifferent about this feature. Luckily, I haven't been close to an accident from it yet... but it will definitely be something to get used to if I decide to keep it on.

It was a bit of a learning curve for me but I purposefully left it on to force myself to struggle through it. I stalled quite a few times in those early days because you need to adjust your takeoff habits if you try to move from a stop right in the immediate second after the engine kicks back on, but if you wait just a second longer you can take off as usual. Probably not what you want to hear, but if you leave it on it'll become second nature after a month or so depending on how often you drive. You either learn to clutch in a second before you have to move, remember to wait one second before you move, or basically program a second kind of takeoff memory to employ in that split second where the engine behaves differently.

So yeah, some embarrassing stalls where people probably didn't think I knew what I was doing, but never anything resembling a potential accident.

Yea I just always turn it off because of that second delay. I'll try your advice. Been turning it off for the last 4 months. I'll give it a go.

Promise you'll get used to it. I still occasionally forget about it, but now that secondary muscle memory I talked about is good enough to recover and prevent the full blown stall so it just turns into a rickety start.

I feel your pain. Happened to me in the beginning as well a couple times, though I would just clutch in for the quick restart in the case of a full stall. Now I'm programmed to just watch the light or the car 3 cars ahead for movement so i can restart and have 2-3 seconds before movement.
