Anyone know what this underside plastic piece covered in felt is?

I noticed this piece hanging down on the underside of the car located below the front end.

It's a piece of plastic covered in felt and it seems to have broken off and is now hanging there. Does anyone know what this piece is?

    Firstly welcome to the forums.
Secondly there has been thousands of posts related to this part.
Thirdly this part acts as a sound barrier allowing ford to make this car European compliant for noise.
Fourthly it has been found much to the detriment to many people in colder climates that when driving in winter conditions this part fills up with snow and ends up breaking and or drooping nearly to the ground. Ford at this time has not issued a fix and I have seen everything from "its the nature of the vehicle" to people getting brand new ones when theirs breaks. There are aftermarket replacements available to the tune of $300-400 but it is questionable as to if this would violate the warranty.

    Aliminum Skid plate (Winter driving)

The one from Saskatchewan will cost less than $220 , shipping included.

BTW, complain to your dealer about this, everyone in the snow belt is having exactly the same problem as you.

Yup - my dealer Crest Ford of Centerline, MI told me it was my fault, this car is low and should not be driven in the winter, basically did no research into the matter and saying the hardware did not fail so it must be my fault and will not warranty it. Told me somewhere over $300 to replace. LoL I then showed them this article from Ford and they ate their words asking for pictures so they can send to Ford, but I still won't take the car back to them. I will find another dealer to do the replacement - oncel winter is over

That dealership is a bunch of morons. When I was looking for an allocation, they didn't even tell me whether they had one or not, if I could be on a list, what AMD was going to be. All they did was respond with was they had some great deals on leasing a Ford Edge. I told them thanks, but I'll go elsewhere.

Nice find, and worth saving for the day when the dealer says "This is a summer only car."

I think everyone who has broken/lost the crappy skid plate should forward pictures of the problem on their car along with this article directly to Ford feedback and support sites.
