Has anyone had the unfortunate task of having their Focus RS MK3 windshield replaced?

Has anyone had the unfortunate task of having their Focus RS MK3 windshield replaced? I have called 3 different auto glass repair/replace specialist and have gotten 3 different quotes ranging from $290 to $425 to have my damaged windshield all based on VIN # make, model and options or lack there of such as no heated windshield, no lane detection, no rain sensers etc then have taken my RS to all three locations to be told that even though I don't have any of these options I would need to order the windshield that does offer some if not all those features so that I can get the appropriate OEM part and look. Seems the large plastic piece that houses the mirror attachment is to contain some if not all of the previously mentioned pieces and the windshield has a special black edging that is black and fades to black dots and this is used to block the inner pieces of that black cover, oh and the windshield of which I don't have the ability to utilize the additional options also costs almost twice as much as a windshield without those options??? Anyone had any similar issues and what did you do or better yet, any solutions???

That's what I suggested and the tech stated the inside of the plastic housing would be visible from the out side of the car but he stated if I wanted he could "rig it" but this being my first new car I'm not looking to "rig" anything, just need to know if this has been encountered by anyone else and if theres any solid solutions before I pay for a windshield with features I'll never be able to use just to keep it OEM looking.

You would get a different mirror and mount. There is nothing in the plastic housing, no reason to have it.

And get a regular Focus mirror. Your original has a different mount. No need for the plastic cover.

If you don't care to keep the car 100% stock as it came from dealer, try the 2017 RS windshield and mirror.

This. The 2017 windshield & mirror combo looks like it will have better forward visibility and defrosting. The plastic sensor box was left empty on the final 2016 build.

Not quite. The 'sensor box' is empty on all North American 2016's.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough for you to understand. The sensors which could be housed in the sensor box, were not in the 2016 model year design.

I had to replace my windshield after a week of ownership. Don't let the glass shops hustle you. Just get OEM Focus glass and you'll be fine.
