    Question Question about Launch Control

    Hi guys,

My RS has almost 4000 miles and tonight I tried LC for the first time (I tried 3 times).

After I was done, I could smell a burn smell; not too strong but still present enough to be noticeable.

I know that LC was properly on since the RPM were bouncing at 5k RPM and the LC was displayed on the dash.

I also side stepped the clutch and kept my foot on the floor for the gas pedal when going from first to second.

Any ideas what that could be?

    Thanks!!

Probably the clutch. Even with launch control enabled, launching a manual car like that is quite a bit harder on it compared to normal driving.

It's the clutch. You're going to burn a little clutch every time. I've only done it twice and got a whiff both times.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was actually bad for the engine to flat foot shift.

Normally it's not a good idea, the RS is tuned to keep the RPM from climbing too fast when you shift from 1 to 2 using LC though, so it's safe.

I knew I read something bad about flat foot shifting, but it took me a little bit to find it. I guess do it at your own risk.

This was a highly tuned car that was flat footed on the track in gears other than 1st & 2nd. It put the car's ECU onto tables for which it was not designed. Stick to the manual guidelines for Launch Control, and it can be even less harmful than a launch without LC done by a knucklehead.

Good to know. I knew that car was tuned but haven't read the whole thread in awhile.
