How to remove roof liner mounted front plastic housing?

I want to access the area above the plastic housing for the front headliner lights/glasses holder but unsure how to remove it. Anyone have any experience or a place to obtain the info? My goal is to wire in a GPS to the power used for the map lights.

Don't tap into that circuit, people have blown PCMs by doing that. Run a wire down to the fuse box in the passenger side footwell.

    Getting Power

    Gentex Mirrors for the RS
    See post #72 and #101
You can also run your wiring along the top of the windshield, tucked under the headliner.

To remove the overhead console, see page 1630 in the second workshop manual. Basically, open the sunglass door and pull down the panel with maplights (at the two pointy parts at the front) far enough to get a small screwdriver in to release the tabs (2). You can now pull the console down far enough to release the two side clips.

Can you expand a bit on the blown PCM's? I've not seen that yet.

This wasn't on an RS, it was on Evos. Still, on modern systems it's a good idea to run a dedicated wire properly.

Can you recommend where I should tap into the passenger side fuses? I'm a real nob on this aspect of cars.

I haven't done it yet, but a couple guys who have posted the details in this thread: Gentex Mirrors for the RS. I assume that they used add-a-circuit fuse taps on the fuse locations that they mentioned.
