How To: Fog light bulb install

Swapping the fog light bulb is fairly easy and straight forward. I took some pics of my installation to provide a guide for others.

Tool needed:
T25 torx screwdriver
Gloves (recommended)

Lifting the front end makes this install easier, but is not necessary.

The FoRS foglight...very illuminating.

Slip your hand behind the plastic cover. The spot by the brake duct intake grill is optimal.

Gently pull away from the front, working your hand around the trim to separate it from the bumper skin.

The foglight exposed.

This is the only time you'll get your wrenching on. Remove this torx bolt.

There are two retaining tabs which need to be pressed inward. The foglight can then be pulled straight out.

Locate the plug at the base of the bulb. Press on the retaining clip, and gently wiggle the plug free.

The U shaped portion is what you will press down in the step above.

Your foglight is now completely free. Twist the bulb to remove. Replace with your choice of aftermarket or OEM bulb.

Re-installation is the reverse: plug the bulb in, slide the foglight back in to place (ensure the retaining tabs click in), return the bolt to the proper place, insert the foglight trim in to the bumper skin.

Now go tear up the asphalt!

It's a great upgrade.

Did it a couple of days ago.

Really thinking of going with yellow. Might buy another set so I can swap in and out.

If they match i definitely wanna swap them out. Just making sure its the h11 size right?

#10 ·
So to understand this correctly. H8 is the oem size but H11 LED bulbs fit as well?

#11 ·
Wow, so I went with the Philips LEDs and the look is much improved. The 6K range is a tad higher than the headlights but much more in line than before...What an easy mod....I've done a lot of these on different cars and never, ever has it been this easy to do....Kudos to the engineer who designed these! Lol

I also bought another set with the yellow film. As easy as this is to do I'll definitely try both. The yellow fogs definitely help in bad weather...

About to pull the trigger on these because 1) I can't decide between white and yellow, and 2) I like toys that I can play with.

But, since these things toggle color based on turning the lamps on and off, does this mean that they will swap colors any time the automatic lights come on? Cause, I kinda feel like that might get annoying, especially at dawn/dusk when the light sensors seem to have a problem making up their mind.

But for $30 (with a 1 year warranty) and the choice to pick between colors as the mood or situation dictates, it seems like a pretty good option. Just wondered if you noticed the color change with the auto lights.

Just an update/FYI for the bi-color CAR ROVER lamps.

The Auto-light feature WILL toggle the color swap on the fogs. I left the house this morning with white fogs, sun came up on the way to work, went into a tunnel, and yellow fogs came on.

Not a huge issue, just wanted to let folks know what to expect.

I know this is an older thread but how have the LEDs held up. Have they lasted? I see a lot of reviews mentioned of them burning out on a lot of different websites.
Has anyone tried the Sylvania H11($100) or H8 ($70) ZEVO LEDS? Advanced auto carries them in store with a free 5 year replacement. Is there going to be any difference in H8 vs H11 since there is a fairly big price difference? They’re both listed as fitting the fog lights on their website and as other have said about other brands on here too.

Just to answer this question, the ZEVO LEDS:

H11 is a 12/24V 14W bulb its a straight design that has a tail for connection.

H8 is a 12.8V 9W bulb and its the same design as the OE fog bulbs.

On a side note the H8/H9/H11/H16 shares the same socket pattern, but differences on the wattage:

I am very tempted to slap on an H8 LED Fog bulbs on the Mrs C-Max (as her low beams) but I'm afraid that it might melt the housing. 😅

Bumping this up!

I just did the mrs. headlights and stumbled on this.

What is the right size for the fog lights for the RS?

H11 or H8?

the Zevo LEDS has a $15 berate at O'Reillys right now

Picked them up today at the O'Reilly store:

346882

It was $75.41 OTD, still getting $15 rebate back so not too bad.

It'll be plug an play. the H11 is not L-shape:

  • It's $99 before taxes.
  • Has a 5 year warranty vs 3yr of the H8/H16.
  • Has a tail you need to secure so no clunking.
  • Also eligible for the $15 rebate.

Zombifying an old thread because it was useful for me.

I'm lucky to have bought spare fog lights back when they were cheap, so I decided to swap out my old "fogged" up ones with the new clear lenses and bulbs.
I stuck new LED versions in to see if it makes any difference. Since I never use them I doubt I'll notice any less fogging.

I'm going to work on finding an easy way to clear the inside of the old lens now that I have them out. I'm sure my new ones will fog up over time as well.

Here are the bulbs I found that fit well, all the links in this thread aren't available anymore: https://a.co/d/b0ylh16

I have a question about install. i had my bumper off and i installed some cheap hydro dipped fog light bezel but i hot glued them on the back side of the bumper and now i would like to upgrade my light bulbs. My question is can i access the light bulbs on the fog lights by removing the wheel liner or am i doomed to have to take bumper off again?
