For those of you living under a rock or, more fortunately, in a region where the climate is warmer around this time of year, you may be unaware that an estimated 18 million Americans are under a blizzard warning as Winter Storm Stella descends upon the northeast.

As is customary when a major, buzzworthy winter storm hits, automakers are on their horses to connect inclement weather to their products. This time up, Ford is taking the opportunity of snowfall to chat up its Ford Focus RS2 Package. Also, colors and other stuff.

Granted, Ford has a somewhat legit angle with its timely press release, entitled “WEATHER REMAINS CHILLY, FORD FOCUS RS SALES STILL HOT THANKS TO ALL-WHEEL DRIVE, RS2 PACKAGE”: the Focus RS’ Ford Performance All-Wheel-Drive System with Dynamic Torque Vectoring has perhaps contributed to it maintaining sales momentum through months where performance car sales might otherwise sag.

“Sales momentum for the Focus RS has been incredible in the U.S. for the first six months,” said Jessica Bishop, Focus marketing manager, Ford North America. “Uniquely for a performance vehicle, we haven’t seen any sales decline during the winter months, but rather customer interest has picked up thanks to AWD availability.”

Ford notes that it has sold more than 3,500 units since the Focus RS was launched last summer, averaging sales of around 500 units per month. Contrary to the idea of customers preferring the Focus RS for its ability to handle winter weather, however, is the fact that its biggest market by far—California, where Ford has sold 627 units—is one that is largely unaffected by harsh winter weather, as is the fact that its third and fourth largest markets—Texas and Florida, respectively—also tend not to experience a great deal of snowfall.

In the process, Ford also tipped that the average transaction price for the Focus RS is $42,351, a significantly-above-base price driven by the addition of features like the Focus RS2 package, which has been added by approximately 62% of customers. Ford did not keep with the winter theme by giving a percentage of customers who have chosen the RS Winter Tire & Wheel Package, which adds 18-inch Sparkle Silver Alloy Wheels and 18-inch Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 winter tires for better grip on snowy roadways.

Also, Ford says that Stealth Gray is the most popular color in the US, having been chosen by 32% of all drivers, followed by Nitrous Blue at 30%, Shadow Black at 20%, and Frozen White at 18%. Hey, Frozen! That’s like a snow thing, too.

More sales numbers: California is the most popular market for the RS with 627 of them sold, roughly 18 percent of the total volume. Michigan (256), Texas (244), Florida (230), and Pennsylvania (192) round out the other top five markets for it.

"Sixty-two percent of customers are opting for the $2,785 RS2 package"

I hate that statistic so much. How many of those 62% were actually forced into paying for a package that they didn't want because dealerships are ordering fully loaded cars to pad their profit margins? I know that I'm in that group.

How many of us had to pay for a moonroof that they didn't want?

At some point in the near future, the Blue Oval will one-up the RS with an even more hardcore variant. Dubbed “RS500” until further notice, the rumor mill alleges that the new model will debut for the 2018 model year.

Carscoops: Ford Sold 16 Focus RS Cars Daily On Average In The USA

Ford Sold 16 Focus RS Cars Daily On Average In The USA

MAR 14, 2017 AT 4:05 PM | BY CRISTIAN GNATICOV

Since it was launched in the US last summer, Ford has sold over 3,500 units of the new Focus RS.

This means that 500 vehicles found new homes each month, and doing a little math reveals that about 16 were sold each day on average.

California remains the largest Ford Focus RS consumer, with 627 sold to date, followed by Michigan, Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania, in this order, with 256, 244, 230 and 192 units delivered, respectively.

Ford says that the average transaction price for the potent compact hatch in the US is $42,351, which means more than $6,000 above its base price. This has been 'blamed' on the RS2 package, which became a 'must' on this side of the pond, chosen by more than 62 percent of buyers so far.

Unlike the global trend of the last few years, that sees white as the most popular color, 32 percent of the Ford Focus RS delivered in the US were finished in Stealth Gray, 30 percent went for the Nitrous Blue and 20 percent for the Shadow Black, whereas Frozen White was chosen by 18 percent of the customers.

"Sales momentum for the Focus RS has been incredible in the U.S. for the first six months. Uniquely for a performance vehicle, we haven’t seen any sales decline during the winter months, but rather customer interest has picked up thanks to AWD availability", Ford's Focus Marketing Manager, Jessica Bishop, said.

They send me a new survey about every month. They ask stupid questions and they get stupid responses. Why yes, I DID cross shop my RS with a Civic Hybrid and I would have paid at least $8k more for my RS to have been a hybrid instead. How did you know. "Why did you select a Focus over the Civic Hybrid?" Because it sucks.

If your Focus were a person, what character traits would describe him/her?
Quiet, reserved, expensive, has superfluous moonroofs.
